Mediation may be an option for couples seeking an uncontested divorce.  While not a good fit for every situation, a mediated divorce has the potential to save time, money, and animosity. It is entirely possible to separate from and divorce a spouse without ever getting involved with a lawyer.

I have been trained and certified to work with you to write up a fair and equitable “memorandum of understanding” for you to take before a judge to have a marriage dissolved. My training in mental health and relationship counseling provides a backdrop for creative problem solving, managing big, difficult emotions, and maintaining a focus on forward progress.

Mediation may work if:

  • You’d rather not “lawyer up”
  • You would like to get to the other side of the divorce with as little animosity as possible
  • You want to save as much money as possible
  • You and your soon-to-be ex-spouse are in agreement about at least some things, and are still willing to work with one another

Mediation may not be the best fit for you if:

  • There has been any abuse in the relationship
  • Either party wants “to make him/her pay”
  • You have an excess of money that you can to burn through
  • There are complex assets involved, like a business or million-dollar stock portfolio
  • You would prefer to hash out all of your grievances in a public court in front of strangers

Mediations can be done in a single hour-long session in exceptionally uncomplicated situations, or as many as six for more complicated scenarios; most will be somewhere in between.

If you are considering a mediated divorce, please give me a call to discuss whether this option is a good fit for your situation.
